Let’s see… where did I leave off? Left Pahrump on Wednesday, and headed for the Grand Canyon. When suddenly… A wild Hoover Dam appears!
Anyway, then it was on to the Grand Canyon.
Yep. It’s a canyon. And it’s large. I dunno, it’s amazing and all that, but I just don’t feel like it’s easy to do as much stuff as it is at some places, like Death Valley, or Yellowstone. I camped at Mather Campground, and was very proud of myself for setting up my tent correctly on the first try. (Hey, it’s been like 4 years!)
This morning, I headed off on a 7.6 mile hike to Pensasco Blanco and the supernova pictograph. I would like to point out that the trailhead sign says this is a 4-6 hour hike. Also, it’s at an elevation of 6,000 feet. Somehow, I did the whole thing in 3 hours, 5 minutes. I am sure I will pay for this shortly.
Tonight I’m staying in Tucumcari, NM, and tomorrow it’s on to Oklahoma City. Where hopefully, I will stop seeing signs for jerky. Seriously, Southwestern US, is your whole economy based on jerky, local honey, and travel centers? It’s certainly not based on having decently paved roads!
