Days 4-6: Back in the land of interwebs!

Let’s see… where did I leave off? Left Pahrump on Wednesday, and headed for the Grand Canyon. When suddenly… A wild Hoover Dam appears!

June 6-8, 2012 009Yes, if I had paid ANY attention to a map prior to this trip, or to geography, I would have known it was on my route. However…

Anyway, then it was on to the Grand Canyon.

June 6-8, 2012 035Yep. It’s a canyon. And it’s large. I dunno, it’s amazing and all that, but I just don’t feel like it’s easy to do as much stuff as it is at some places, like Death Valley, or Yellowstone. I camped at Mather Campground, and was very proud of myself for setting up my tent correctly on the first try. (Hey, it’s been like 4 years!)

June 6-8, 2012 036Then on to Chaco! I spent Thursday looking at most of the things you can see on a short walk from the car. Then I camped in Gallo Campground. Within site of some ruins. You know. Like you do.

June 6-8, 2012 086This morning, I headed off on a 7.6 mile hike to Pensasco Blanco and the supernova pictograph. I would like to point out that the trailhead sign says this is a 4-6 hour hike. Also, it’s at an elevation of 6,000 feet. Somehow, I did the whole thing in 3 hours, 5 minutes. I am sure I will pay for this shortly.

June 6-8, 2012 154Tonight I’m staying in Tucumcari, NM, and tomorrow it’s on to Oklahoma City. Where hopefully, I will stop seeing signs for jerky. Seriously, Southwestern US, is your whole economy based on jerky, local honey, and travel centers? It’s certainly not based on having decently paved roads!
